Village

The village was founded by Bulgarian families who refuse to accept Islam, and settled there. It is believed that during the period 1623-1626, were formed the first neighborhoods. The settlers came from Western Macedonia and Tarnovo. Near the village are found historical artifacts from before new age (Thracian helmets, coins, marble tiles, pottery, etc.), which means even though the area is high - mountain was inhabited since ancient times.

The legend

According to a legend, it is believed that the name of the village came from the wife of a local blacksmith named Marco. After his death, the woman takes care of the family. When relatives and friends went there, they said they go to "Kovachevitsa", which means blacksmith's wife. And from there came the name of the neighborhood around which gathered all the other neighborhoods to defend themselves from the attacks of thieves.
