Speed limits and fines in Bulgaria

Speed limit for cars:

  • 50 km/h within towns
  • 90 km/h outside towns
  • 120 km/h on expressways
  • 140 km/h on motorways

Penalties for exceeding the speed limits inside settlements are as follows:

  • For exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 km/h – a fine of 10 BGN ;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 11-20 km/h – a fine of 30 BGN ;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 21-30 km/h – a fine of up to 100 BGN ;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 31-40 km/h – a fine of up to 150 BGN and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 1 month;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 41-50 km/h – a fine of up to 200 BGN and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 2 months;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 51 km/h or more – a fine of up to 250 BGN fine and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 3 months.

  • For exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 km/h – a fine of 10 BGN;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 11-20 km/h – a fine of 30 BGN;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 21-30 km/h – a fine of up to 50 BGN;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 31-40 km/h – a fine of up to 100 BGN and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 1 month;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 41-50 km/h – a fine of up to 150 BGN fine and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 2 months;
  • For exceeding the speed limit by 51 km/h or more – a fine of up to 200 BGN and
    suspension of the driving license for a period of 3 months.
