Golden Sands resort is about 18 kilometers north of the city of Varna. It is close to the full of greenery Golden Sands National Park. The name of the resort comes from an old pirate legend, according to which, pirates digged in golden treasure in the seaside where the resort is situated now and the land revenged on the bandits transforming the gold into wonderful sand. Golden Sands is dynamic and vivid resort, one of the largest on the Northern Black Sea coast, with green hills, rich forest and white golden beach. The area around the resort is full of mineral water springs, some of them with 150 m/sec flow. The springs were visited since ancient times from Thraciains and Romans. The resort has one of the largest beaches in Bulgaria - 3,5 km. long and up to 100 m wide. Golden sands is a gorgeous and vast seaside resort in South-East Bulgaria. It’s is situated only 17 km away from the centre of Varna in the National Park Golden Sands. The resort is very easy to access by car and by the numerous busses that serve regularly the routes from the Varna’s centre, rail station and airport. In Bulgarian the name is pronounced “Zlatni Pyasatsi” and comes from an ancient legend. It’s said that once the region was a hideaway for pirates and that they used to store their treasures there. However, the nature was against that sacrilege so it took revenge, turning the booty into sand.

Golden Sands is a beautiful summer resort and park at the same time, so it’s full with many pedestrian alleys, even several hiking routes through the forest. The famous rock monastery Aladzha can be accessed by car or by foot from the resort itself. The Varna city shouldn’t be missed neither; it has enormous Seaside Garden with Aquarium, Dolphinarium and Zoo. The visitors of the resort can also consider one-day trips when it comes to the following places. The breathtaking site of “Pobiti kamani” represents a fossil forest only 3 km away from Varna. The near town of Balchik has a summer residential palace with huge garden full of rare plants and it used to belong to a princess. Near Balchik is the town of Kavarna – the so called rock’n’roll capital of Bulgaria with its annual Kavarna Rock Fest,

and near Kavarna is situated Kaliakra – an old fortress that was populated during the Ottoman Empire, but that used to be active from ancient times. Another interesting historical site is the remnants of the ancient capital of Bulgaria – Pliska. Pliska is no more than 80 km away from Varna and it’s connected to the city via highway. Only 8 km away from Pliska is situated the Madara Horseman – a unique rock engraving under the protection of UNESCO. On the plateau where the Horseman stands, there is another ancient fortress.

There are 10 tennis courts, a horse-riding club, basketball and volleyball playgrounds, bowling hall, aqua park, open-air fitness arena, bow shooting ground, cycling alleys, hunting and safari trips, paintball tournaments and many more. It also has a mini-golf ground to warm up the players for the gorgeous new golf courses only 45 km away from Varna. The resort also provides everything necessary for the aquatic sports. The experts in those sports can easily rent equipment and practice; and for the beginners there are organized courses in diving, sky-diving, surfing, racing, yachting.

The nightlife is also rich. The resort has discos, bars and a casino. Every taste can be satisfied; the night could start with a simple cocktail or with a few games at Black Jack and then continues at some disco until the sun rises.

Events

The Cultural and Information Center of Golden Sands every summer prepares a program with many concerts, plays, fashion shows, live music performances and more. They also organize exhibitions, courses in Bulgarian languages, beer festivals, retro cars parade and many more. The program is made for every year so every summer there’s something new and fun in it. Of course, every hotel has an entertaining program prepared by the hotels’ animators.
