The Italian ministers are substituting Audi with Lancia

The new Prime Minister of Italy Mario Monti plans to require all ministers to ride only cars produced in Italy. The Government’s fleet consists of almost entirely Audi automobiles, and Monty himself was forced to borrow a Lancia Thesis from the presidential garage, just to ride in a made-in-Italy representative limousine.Cabinet members who themselves are willing to ride on home-produced cars, faced the same problem. Italian Interior Ministry’s fleet consisted almost entirely of Audi or BMWs and the new interior minister, Ana Maria Konchileri found in the garage of the office only a Lancia Thesis with a mileage of over 150,000 km, which did not meet state’s safety standards.Some employees of government services offered to resolve the problem with the distribution of 19 luxury Maserati among the members of the Cabinet. They were purchased by the Ministry of Defence some time ago, which sparked a huge scandal in Italy. The Defense Minister at that time – La Russa Inyatsio saw nothing wrong with the order because “Italian cars are acquired through а regular auction in the European legislation.”Italian medias commented on the initiative of Mario Monti as a desire to demonstrate how in the middle of a severe economic crisis, that has forced millions to tighten their expenseс, the political elite is ready to satisfy its’ appetite.
