Varna Airport closed its doors on 15 October last year because of a large-scale rehabilitation of the runway. In four months about 500 people worked around the clock to be able to finish on time. The results are more than 150,000 tons of newly paved asphalt, a new drainage system, and replaced runway lights.

The repair cost 40 million lev, the amount is fully paid by the concessionaire “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management”. The track now meets all the international and European standards and now it is able for airplanes such as Boeing 747 to land on the new runway. The last big repair of the airport was nearly 40 years ago – back in 1974.

During December began the constructing of the new passenger terminals at the airports in Varna and Burgas. It is planned for the new summer season in 2013 both of the airports to meet and send their guests from the new buildings.

U.S. Congressman Dan Langren presented to the Congress a project, in which was proposed a prize of $ 1 billion for an automaker. For it, however, the company must develop and put into mass production a car that consumes 2.4 l/100 km.

By the American system for computing, the machine must be able to run a 100 miles per gallon (2.35 l/100km). The program, which was proposed in the project, should be controlled by the Ministry of Energy of the U.S. and its main purpose is to stimulate companies to make more economical cars.

But there are certain conditions to be met by applicants in order to win the money. The first is – the new car should run only on gasoline, no batteries. Second – the manufacturer must be American, which means the company is registered in the U.S.. This automatically removes from the competition models such as Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion Energi and Nissan Leaf. The company must sell 60,000 vehicles. Under these conditions, the most serious contender appears to be a machine that does not particularly looks like a regular car – Veri Light Car (on the photo), which is manufactured by the company Edison2. This vehicle runs 102.5 miles with 1 gallon, which makes about 2.29 l/100 km. The car is equipped with one-cylinder turbo engine with 250 cubic centimeters capacity, which has 40 bhp and approximately the same torque. From 0 to 100 km / h it accelerates for 14.2 seconds and the top speed is nearly 160 km/h.

In the machine can fit 4 people, luggage and about 15 liters of fuel. According to the manufacturer, the fuel consumption on a track is 1.8 l/100 km. Therefore the Edison2 company has already won a project worth $ 5 million and intends to continue developing the production of such cars. But even Edison2 has no chance to take a prize of $ 1 billion since the chances to sell 60,000 of these cars are none.

 German concern ZF, delivering itsproduction tomost of the major automotive manufacturers, announced today a significant growth in the revenue, noting that production for the last year has increased by 20%.

In 2010 the increase was 38%, now the Germans continue to reap success with new technologies. ZF noted that their success is duenot only tothe unique development of automatic transmissions but also to therelatively good demand for cars in the so called “premium”segment.

Exactlythere are concentrated the efforts of the company, as Germans focus mostly on gearboxes and systems which are improving thefuel economy. The greatest interest now is the innovativenine gears  automatic transmission.

Generally, this gearbox is designed for cars with front-wheel drive and transverse mounted engine, but thanks to theprovided additional transmission box, itcan be used in 4WDcars and hybrids to work with.

The most interesting is that ZF transmissions achieve significant fuel savings without compromising the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle. Gearboxes can be also used in smaller cars.

For example, the new compact first series of BMW is equipped with eight-speed automatic transmission and the nine gears automaticgearbox is being mounted in thecompact car Dodge Dart.

 The heirs of Louis Renault filed a claim against the country, reported the newspaper “Guardian”. The grandsons of the founder of the auto giant said that the company was nationalized illegally on unproven allegations for collaboration.

Renault founded the company together with his brothers in 1898. The entrepreneur died in prison in 1944, while expecting the process on charges forcollaboration with the Nazis during the German occupation of France. In January 1945, Charles de Gaulle and the provisional government of the country signed a decree to confiscate the companywith theassertion that Renault has provided the Germans with vehicles and services during the war.

The seven grandchildren of Renault benefit from a new law introduced by Nicolas Sarkozy, and are challenging theconfiscation, arguing that it is in contrary withthe French constitution.The lawyers ofthe plaintiffs argue that no other enterprise has been nationalized in this way – without the owner even get to court. Heirs fight for financial compensation from the French country.

The case provoked the wrath of the Communist Party, Communist trade unions, deported and some historians who accuse Renault family in an attempt to distort history. The Communists said that they strongly oppose to “any attempt to be rehabilitated Louis Renault.”

Among historians, there is no dispute that Renault has deliveredengines, ready vehicles and technologiesforthe Nazis. The question is whether this has happened voluntarily, or – as claimed by The Renault family – the company simply had no other choice.

 This Saturday the newly built car plant near Lovech first opened its doors for journalists.

The factory is fully equipped – the assembly lines were installed and tested, the team is trained and ready for work.

The manufacturing process is carried out on Japanese model – the Toyota production system  - TPS.

Initially the factory will work with assembledcomponents from China. From port  Varna will be delivered the  vehicle constructionsthat will be equipped with all the necessary elements in the factory.

The plan istha halls for painting and spot weldingto be ready in the next two years. There will beusingparts manufactured by other Bulgarian companies.

Although the plant opening is planned to be more  than two months later, in the halls everything is in place – on both sides of the assembly line are precisely arranged the various parts that will be used in the cars, and on each workstation is placed pictures with the  namesof the team.

Currently, the planthas produced 10 test vehiclesnot intended for the market. They are Voleex C10,and Steed5, as their construction is a test procedure designed to synchronize and final test theequipment and production lines and introducing thequality system for the vehiclesin production.

Officially the plant will be launched in February 2012 with three models – Voleex C10, Steed 5 and Hoover H5, and by the end of 2012 on the assembly line will be uploaded two more, one of which will be a mid-sized sedan Voleex C30.

The models are certified in the UK, covering the Euro 5 and European safety standards, explained fromLitex Motors.

By 2014 the capacity of the plant willreach a production of 50,000 cars to be sold across Europe. There will also be produced Great Wall cars with right direction, which will be exported forthe UK market.

As you already know,all five models who are going to beassembled at the factory in 2012 can be equipped with a Lpi  gas system (Liquid Propane Injection). It works without the evaporator, reducesfuel costsandincreases the dynamic characteristics of the car.

In his homeland, Steed 5 is the best-selling pickup, and Hoover H5 is the second in the SUVclassafter Honda CR-V. Also successful is the model Voleex C30, which was awarded the title Family Car of the Year in China.

 The racing equipment and machinery are now traveling to South America.

The bulgarian participants in the legendary  ”Dakar” raceare ready for the challenge, which starts on 1 January in Argentina.

The racing ATVs with whomwill participate Peter Tsenkov and his teammate Mladen Vachkov, the truck for assistance, and the vehicle for the medias arealready travelingto SouthAmerica with the organizers.

Tsenkov will record hissecond participation in the race while Vachkov will be a rookie . Bothpilots will rely on the chiefengineer Dimitar Ortakov and the off-road racersRusi Rusev and Ruslan Trifonov, who are also a part of the support team. Tsenkov will be traveling along with the photographer Stoyan Draev.

The race itself lasts 15 days and is onthe territory of Argentina, Chile and Peru. The routeof ”Dakar is over 8500 km, more than half of that – racing.

There will be a total of 465racing machines of all classeson the start in Mar del Plata.

Specialists from Idaho built a car that set a world record for speed driven by vegetable oil. With this achievement, the Americans want to show the prospects of alternative fuels derived from renewable sources.

The Chevrolet S-10 pickup, produced 1998, is further elaborated by students, members of the  club. They were able to turn the vehicle in a true sports car that is powered by oil.

The car is equipped with a straight six-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharger. Its working volume is 5.9 liters, and its power – 700 hp. The car have had many re-works, building the project’s amounts up to           $ 125,000.

Money have been collected from more than 70 individuals and companies who are sponsors of the project. In September this year, the biodiesel truck was ready and was taken to the salt lake in Boneville. There, however, the vehicle failed to improve the speed record for a car driven by vegetable oil.

After a lot of adjustments on 12 and 13 November students made another attempt – this time in the salt lake El Mirage in Southern California. There, everything runs without any worries. The first day the Chevrolet S-10 Greenspeed was able to reach speed of 139 mph (223.7 kmh).

During the second day of the experiment the “biodiesel monster” accelerates to 155,331 miles per hour (249.9 km / h). Behind the wheel of the truck stands the leader and founder of the club Greenspeed Dave Schenker.
